About Me

I have been practicing as a speech and language pathologist for over 26 years. My passion and focus are on working with young children.
Professional Specialties
I specialize in providing home-based speech and language intervention to young children (0-6 years old) who are at risk for developing or who already demonstrate communication challenges. I also offer workshops, presentations, in-service training, and consultation to families, teachers, and preschool staff. I work in Spanish, English, or both, as needed.
The areas of communication that I focus on are: articulation disorder, phonological disorder, childhood apraxia of speech, cognitive deficits, voice /prosody, stuttering/fluency disorder, oral motor disorder, tongue thrust, receptive and expressive language disorders (comprehension and formulation of language), pragmatic/social language challenges, play skills and central auditory and language processing disorders. In addition, I offer services for high-functioning children in the autism spectrum, as well as those with Asperger's syndrome or Down syndrome.
Background
San Diego has been my home for over 20 years. I was born and raised in Argentina. After receiving my degree as a Speech-Language Pathologist at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires and practicing for a few years, I moved to Albany, NY, where I earned my master's degree in communication disorders at the College of Saint Rose. Shortly afterward, I moved to San Diego, CA, where I obtained my clinical certification (CCC’s) and California SLP license. I have been practicing in San Diego ever since.
I am member of the American-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSHA), the Hispanic Caucus for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists, and the Infant Development Association of California. I’m Hanen certified and DIR Floor Time certified (introductory course). I am committed to ongoing learning and regularly attend continuing education courses and workshops.
Over the years, I have worked with clients of all ages (from newborn babies to elders) with a variety of communication disorders, providing services focused on speech and language assessment and treatment. I have worked in a range of settings including hospitals, clinics, schools, preschools, family child care centers, private practices, and children’s homes. My services are offered in both or either English and Spanish. In most cases, it is best to use the child's strongest language during intervention.
In addition to working as a speech and language therapist, I am a happy wife and the mother of three wonderful children.

My Approach & Philosophy
My primary focus is to promote growth and to encourage and facilitate development of the child’s communication skills through play and social interaction. I do this by designing and providing appropriate activities for parents and children in the context of each family’s strengths, abilities, and expectations.
I use a home/family-based model of intervention, typically working with children and their caregivers in their own home, because children develop communication skills primarily within their family unit. I take the role of a coach while family members assume more of a lead role. There is tremendous value in working at the child’s place: children feel more familiar and comfortable with their own environment, and this makes them more likely to communicate with others.
It is critical for family members to be involved in speech and language interventions for young children. When they do so, results are better: the family members develop greater awareness of their role in the child’s overall development, they become empowered with tools to support the child, and they learn to create a language-rich environment for the child.
I work very closely with parents and with other caregivers (for example, grandparents, siblings, or babysitters), as well as teachers or other therapists as needed. I share my knowledge of typical language communication development milestones and offer appropriate and practical strategies and techniques that can easily be incorporated into daily routines and activities in the child’s natural environment. Caregivers who spend the most time with the child should be the ones receiving this guidance, because they have the most influence on the child’s communication development.
Working with young children with special needs in the area of communication has been my passion. I enjoy the challenges and rewards that each child brings. And I’m committed to empowering, coaching, and guiding families and to partnering with educators and other therapists so as to contribute to the improvement of children’s functional communication and to their experience of success, in that way helping them realize their full potential.
I look forward to working with you and your child!
